EAZUSER3.EXE V3.56 - EaziLink V3/EaziHost USER.HST Editor
---------------------------------------------------------
for use with EaziLink Version 3 Host Mode and EaziHost V1
4th April 1990
Disclaimer
----------
This program is being put into the Public Domain and may be freely
distributed on the understanding that no responsibility can be
accepted for any problems arising from its use. To the best of our
knowledge, it is 'Bug free' and serves its intended purpose.
No charge, other than a nominal charge for duplication and postage may
be made for it and it should only be supplied as a single ARC or ZIP
file called EAZUSER3.ARC, or EAZUSER3.ZIP, containing the
EAZUSER3.EXE, EAZUSER3.CNF and EAZUSER3.DOC files.
NOTE : For users of earlier versions
------------------------------------
A number of minor changes and additions have been made to the program,
inluding the facility to change the type of Message Editor used.
One or two of the names of the commands and the keys required to use
them have been changed, both to make use more logical and to include
the extra features.
Overview
--------
EAZUSER3 allows editing of the USER.HST file which contains details of
the users of the Bulletin Board.
The User's Name, Password, Validation level, Terminal Emulation,
Hotkey and Expert settings can all be changed.
The Facility is also provided to delete a single user, or any users
who have not used the BB within a specified number of days of the
current date.
EazUser3 may also be used by a Sysop logging on from a remote site.
Running EAZUSER3
----------------
EAZUSER3.EXE and EAZUSER3.CNF should be located in any directory
specified by the PATH command.
EAZUSER3.CNF contains details of where the USER.HST file is to be
found. The default CNF file supplied with EAZUSER3 contains the entry
'\EAZILINK\HOSTMAIN\' and this should be amended if you have used
different directory names from the above. This can be done with any
text editor.
Command Line Syntax
-------------------
EAZUSER3 (<name>) (/N:nnnn) (/P:nnnn) (/H)
<name> is optional and may be part or the whole of a User's name.
/N:nnnn is optional and will delete all entries, with no prompting,
for all Users who have not used the BB for 'nnnn' or more
days.
/P:nnnn is optional and will delete all entries, prompting whether
each is to be deleted, for all those Users who have not used
the BB for 'nnnn' or more days.
Using EAZUSER3 without any parameters
-------------------------------------
If EAZUSER3 is run without any parameters, the program will display
the first entry in the USER.HST file, in the following form:-
USER NAME PASSWORD Term. Hotkey Expert Editor DATE
Example:
JOE BLOGGS BUGSY A H E B 20/10/89
The full user name and password are displayed, but the Terminal
emulation is displayed either as 'A' for ANSI, or 'T' for TTY. If
Hotkey operation has been selected, 'H' will be displayed, otherwise
nothing and 'E' or nothing for Expert mode. 'B', 'P', 'F', or nothing
will be displayed for Basic , Partial or Full ANSI Editor.
On the line beneath the first entry is displayed a list of options
which may be selected. Valid keys are:-
Return - Selects the next (or previous) entry without making any
further changes to the current entry. Repeated pressing
moves backwards or forwards through the list, depending
on the current direction. When the end of the list is
reached, earlier records are displayed until the start
is reached again and vice versa.
(S)rch - Allows entry of a User Name, or any part of a user name
and finds the matching entry.
(B)ck - Moves backwards through the list, allowing re-editing of
earlier entries if necessary.
(N)xt - Moves forwards through the list.
(K)ill - Allows the currently displayed user to be deleted from
USER.HST. A request for confirmation is made first.
(U)sr - When selected, the existing User name is presented for
editing. Note that the 'Backspace' key may be used to
delete the previous character and Ctrl-Y may be used to
delete the whole entry.
(P)swd - When selected, the existing Password is presented for
editing. Note that the 'Backspace' key may be used to
delete the previous character and Ctrl-Y may be used to
delete the whole entry.
(V)al - Allows the current Validation level to be changed.
(A)nsi - Toggles between ANSI and TTY emulations.
(H)ot - Toggles between Hotkey mode and normal mode.
(X)prt - Toggles between Expert mode and normal mode.
(E)dtr - Toggles between
No ANSI - nothing displayed.
Basic ANSI - 'B' displayed.
Partial ANSI - 'P' displayed.
Full ANSI - 'F' Displayed.
Note for EaziLink Users: Whilst this option may be
changed, it serves no purpose with EaziLink Host mode as
the type of editor is only relevant to EaziHost.
(Q)uit - Leaves EAZUSER3.
Note:-
1. When any changes are made, the updated entry is re-displayed. An
entry may have as many changes made to it as required.
2. Only when the Return key, '(N)ext', or '(B)ack', or 'Q' (to quit)
are selected, are the changes written to the file.
Using EAZUSER3 with the <name> parameter
----------------------------------------
This is virtually the same as using EAZUSER3 without any parameters,
except that the first entry displayed will be one that matches the
name specified. If no match is found, the first record is selected.
The <name> may be all or any part of a User Name. Entering 'and', for
example, would find 'Andrew Jones', 'James Bigland' or 'David
Andrews', whichever was first in the list.
Entries may be edited in the same way as described above.
Using EAZUSER3 with /N:nnnn and /P:nnnn parameters
--------------------------------------------------
EAZUSER3 functions differently when either of these options are
selected and their purpose is to allow you to remove old and unused
entries from the list.
'nnnn' may be a number between 1 and 9999 and represents the number of
days before the current date. All entries for people who have not
accessed the BB since that earlier date will be deleted from USER.HST.
When /P:nnnn is used, the name of each User is displayed with a
request for whether the entry should be deleted or not.
When /N:nnnn is selected, the entries for all users who have not used
the BB since that date are deleted automatically. the names of the
deleted entries are displayed.
EAZUSER3 as a Door program
--------------------------
EAZUSER3 may also be used as a Type 2 Door program, enabling a SysOp
to update validations and any of the other settings remotely, if
required. If this is done, the access level to that door should be set
to a value that will not allow other people to access the program.
A suitable entry should be added to the EaziLink/EaziHost DOORS.HST
file, specifying it as a type 2 door. No EaziLink variables or other
parameters should be passed to the program.
